And more to the point, how you can utilize the right SMS marketing message ideas to convert your leads into actual sales.

Generally, as a business owner, it’d be to your advantage to tap into the incredible opportunity SMS marketing provides. With a few short messages, you can reach customers where they spend a lot of time – on their phones.

SMS – It’s All About Context!

…Pun unintended.

If you are already using SMS marketing, here’s a pro tip – leave the ‘hello customer’ for business owners who don’t want new customers. One of the best SMS marketing tips is to personalize the message, even when it’s automated.

Let’s review how best to make your SMS marketing strategy top-notch and provide the results you need.

SMS Marketing Campaign Strategies That Will Yield the Most Fruit

Keep Things Short and Sweet

You might be wondering how you could fit everything you need within the confines of the SMS character limits, keep it personal, and still sell your product. A great text marketing idea is to keep your messages short and straight to the point. This type of text message campaign feels personal and is a great way to invest in customer relationships.

This is what you should be aiming for in your SMS marketing campaign. Your customers are also likely to appreciate this SMS marketing strategy from you. Send relevant but succinct messages as if you were conversing one-on-one with the client.

The first bit could be a greeting and quick introductory text with your name and business name. The next message would ideally be the part where you reveal the reason for the text. This could be anything from an incredible opportunity to shop discounted items, a chance to learn more about a product or service, or a follow-up on their abandoned cart. Lastly, a call-to-action would tie things up rather nicely.

Here’s a sample –

1st text – Greetings John! This is [Business Owner] from [Business Name].

2nd text – It’s been a minute! Just wanted to let you know that we have a new catalog filled with special offers for returning customers like you that you could cash in on.

3rd text – If you want to take a look and see if there’s something you like, you can browse it here: [Link]. Thanks!

Use an SMS Automation Tool

Every aspect of your business could benefit greatly from some level of automation. SMS marketing is no different. You can use this to grow your contact list, schedule time-based SMS deliveries, and also track your SMS results.

Additionally, search for a tool that will allow you to automate your texts without giving your SMS marketing strategy a mechanical feel. Remember the point is to personalize your SMS marketing campaign. One of the biggest text marketing ideas out there is the use of SMS automation tools to gather data for customer behavior and interactions that can improve your SMS marketing strategy.

Send GIFs in Text Messages

Another SMS marketing message idea is to use GIFs in your SMS marketing. You might not think you could use GIFs as a text marketing idea. Although it can feel a bit odd, you can adapt them for use in a professional way. It’s a great way to make the customers feel like there’s someone on the other end of the line conversing with them.

Additionally, consider what GIFs to use and when to add them. Just make sure they are relevant and respectful. Pro tip – Don’t overdo it. Once in a while, an occasional GIF, preferably at the end of your SMS will suffice.

Send Short URLs

A top SMS marketing tip is to always keep your messages short. You might be tempted to make it a little longer just so you could get out all the “important” information. That’s often not necessary and could cost you your customer’s attention. Instead, create URLs to the content you would like to share with your customers.

Furthermore, you can shorten your URL to make it easy on the eyes and more likely for your customers to click on it. It’s also a great way to make sure your message remains short or at least within the character limit of your texts. Shortened links also allow you to track your text so you can keep an eye on user actions and behavior to improve your SMS marketing campaign.

Give Customers a Choice to Opt-Out

This is often a legal requirement for digital marketing communications. It’s also important that you pay your customers this respect. Chances are they will appreciate your candor and stay subscribed. On the other hand, if you fail to provide this option, it could get pretty intrusive and cause you to lose customers.

Note, you’ll probably get quite a few people opting out of receiving your messages. Don’t sweat it. Use it to your advantage and analyze your unsubscribe rates. This could provide valuable insight for fine-tuning your SMS content and booming your SMS marketing campaign.

Get Interactive with Your Customers

It would be a great idea to encourage healthy interaction between your brand and customers. A common form you could use here is keyword and short code SMS marketing campaign strategy. By asking your customers to text a certain word to a shortcode, you’re encouraging responses from them.

What’s more? If you incentivize this, well, chances are they will be down for some interaction. Exclusive deals or coupons are often incentive enough. It could also be a vote of some sort where you could run polls to receive valuable insight on what your customers want.

If there’s one trait he shares with Henry, it’s passionate problem-solving. Although he has been working for over 25 years in Sales, Marketing, Management, Team Building and Customer Service, perhaps his relevant business credentials start even earlier. At 15, he started a business selling and installing car stereo systems before he even had a driver’s license. Armed with a reseller’s permit and a passion for business, he started down the path of entrepreneurship and hasn’t looked back since.

With four amazing children and a wonderful wife in his life, his goal is set: provide the best possible life for them that he can. To that end, he works hard on helping clients scale their businesses through the use of cutting edge digital marketing tools.

His weapon of choice on this quest is not a coincidence, for his knowledge of technology is certainly top-notch. This can sometimes be a blessing and a curse however, when the Apple Genius Bar can’t solve a friend’s problem, it’s Zach’s phone that gets lit up.

To unwind, he spends time with his children, goes on weekly dates with his wife and is passionate about crafting culinary art… he unwinds and loves creating amazing home-cooked meals for his friends and family!

Outside of work, he enjoys a good meal with friends and a nice Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. He also likes travelling with his family and exploring different cultures and finding out more about our world. Little known fact, he won the Atomic Spicy Food Competition when most of the people quit after just a couple of bites. Scientists have yet to come up with an explanation.
